About Frees and Threes

International Shooter Federation’s Frees and Threes Contests are establishing the sport of basketball shooting! The first event, Saratoga Frees and Threes, was held on Sunday, January 31st, 2016 and followed in January of 2017 with Saratoga Frees and Threes II, both at the Saratoga Springs Rec Center in Saratoga Springs, NY. ISF is on it’s way back to the Saratoga Springs Rec Center for this year’s contest, Capital Region Frees and Threes 2018. Stay tuned to reserve your opportunity.  $30,000 Total Purse Expected.

Contest Rules

Free Throw Contest General Rules:

  • Shooters cannot touch or cross the free throw line before the ball hits the rim/backboard.
  • The foul line is 15′ from the basket.
  • A maximum of Two (2) balls are available to each shooter.
  • All rounds are to be video streamed via smart phone, tablet or camera device.

Round 1

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) Free Throws.
  • Must be in, or tied for, the top Twenty-five (25) to qualify for Round 2.

Round 2

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) Free Throws.
  • Must be in, or tied for, the top Ten (10) to qualify for Round 3.

Round 3

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) Free Throws.
  • Must be in, or tied for, the top Five (5) to qualify for Semi-final.

Capital Region Frees and Threes 2018 Free Throw Contest Semi-final

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) Free Throws.
  • Must finish in the top Two (2) to qualify for Finals of Capital Region Frees and Threes 2018 Free Throw Contest.
  • In the event of a tie, each Shooter will take Fifteen (15) additional Free Throw attempts.
  • If there is still a tie, each Shooter will step back to the Three-point line and alternate shots in sudden death.

Capital Region Frees and Threes 2018 Free Throw Contest Finals

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) free throws.
  • In the event of a tie, each Shooter will take Fifteen (15) additional Free Throw attempts.
  • If there is still a tie, each Shooter will step back to the Three-point line and alternate shots in sudden death.

Three Point Contest General Rules:

  • Shooters may determine who is to be their rebounder and their passer.
  • Shooters cannot touch or cross the 3-Point line before leaving the ground.
  • A maximum of Two (2) balls are available to each shooter.
  • 3-point arc is 19’9″ at the top of the key for all rounds except the Final. Shooters will compete from the 20’9″ arc in the Final.
  • Shooters must shoot at least one shot from the 5 marked locations along the arc.
  • Shooters cannot shoot consecutively from one location – must work along the arc.

Round 1

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) Three-point attempts.
  • Must be in, or tied for, the top Twenty-five (25) to qualify for Round 2.

Round 2

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) Three-point attempts.
  • Must be in, or tied for, the top Ten (10) to qualify for Round 3.

Round 3

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) Three-point attempts.
  • Must be in, or tied for, the top Five (5) to qualify for Semi-final.

Capital Region Frees and Threes 2018 Three-point Contest Semi-final

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) Three-point attempts.
  • Must finish in the top Two (2) to qualify for Finals of Capital Region Frees and Threes 2018 Three-point Contest.
  • In the event of a tie, each Shooter will alternate shots in sudden death.

Capital Region Frees and Threes 2018 Free Throw Contest Finals

  • 3 minute clock counting down.
  • Shooters are allowed Twenty-five (25) Three-point attempts.
  • In the event of a tie, each Shooter will alternate shots in sudden death.

Divisions

Open Division

  • 18+ years of age.
  • Male or female.
  • Not currently playing high school or college athletics.
